Payment Structures for International Food Trade

Nexera Food Trade helps structure payment terms and documentary instruments around the requirements of each transaction. The objective is to balance buyer and supplier risk while aligning payment with contract, inspection, documentation and shipment milestones.

Documentary Credit

Letters of credit may be used where appropriate, with documentary conditions aligned to the commercial contract and shipment requirements.

Documentary Collection

Documentary collection structures, including documents against payment or acceptance, may be considered depending on the counterparties and transaction.

Staged Payments

Advance, pre-shipment, inspection, loading or documents-based payment stages can be structured where commercially appropriate.

Risk & Transaction Controls

Depending on the transaction, controls may include counterparty review, inspection, cargo insurance, documentary conditions and agreed payment milestones.

What We Need to Structure the Payment Terms

Please provide:

  • Product and specification
  • Quantity per shipment
  • Total or recurring program volume
  • Packaging
  • Destination and Incoterm
  • Expected shipment period
  • Preferred payment method
  • Issuing or receiving bank, where relevant
  • Buyer / seller company details

The final payment structure depends on the transaction, counterparties, countries involved and acceptance by the relevant banks or financial institutions.
